Music Theatre Core Classes
Makebelievers: Your favorite stories come to life with the magic of theatre-making, singing, dancing and creative storytelling. Sections of this class are offered for toddlers and pre-schoolers. Winter 2010 term inspired by Singin In The Rain.
Ages 3-5, Mon 2:15-3:15pm & Sat 10-10:50pm

Song & Dance: A beginning music theater skills class for elementary-aged performers. Learn basic singing and dancing skills while performing to fun, upbeat production numbers from much-loved musical plays. Winter 2010 term inspired by Singin In The Rain.

Music Theatre Playlab: Students fall in love with storytelling by learning valuable acting, improv and character work while exploring the story and themes from a musical theater show. Music TheatreLabs are inspired by one of our mainstage productions each season, and culminate in a studio sharing based on exercises and production numbers learned throughout the class. Winter 2010 term inspired by Singin In The Rain.

Music Theatre Dance: A fun and fast-paced dance training program that focuses on jazz for the musical theatre stage. Classes in the dance program immerse the student in style, technique, stage formations, and performance quality using choreography sequences from classic to contemporary music theatre pieces. Classes are structured according to age, experience and ability level.
Intro Dance, (Grades 4 & up), Tues 3:30-4:25; Intermediate/Advanced (Grades 6 & up), Sat 11-12:30pm; Advanced (Grades 6 & up), Tues 4:30-6pm

Studio One-Acts: Scripted, rehearsed productions that culminate in a studio performance. Directed by professional directors, students in this class learn acting and stage skills through a rehearsal process. Participation is open to members of the youth company as well as new students with some previous stage experience. Winter 2010 term inspired by Singin In The Rain.
Grades 6-8, Thurs 4-6pm

Music Theatre for Adults: A fun, creative and supportive place to learn the basics, or polish a piece for an upcoming audition. Small class environment, with one-on-one attention from the supportive teaching artist. The class focuses on acting as well as singing and basic movement. New and returning students of all ages and ability levels are welcome.
Ages 17 & up, Sundays 6:30-8:30pm

3-Week Intensive Mini-Classes: Specialized workshops offered after Youth Company shows have finished, near the end of our Winter session. Winter 2010 sessions include Tap Intro, Design Workshop, and Song Writing Workshop. Available to anyone with previous theater experience. Grades 4 & up. Tap Intro, Thursdays 4-6pm – Feb. 25th, March 4th and March 11th; Design Workshop, Fridays 4-6pm – Feb. 26th, March 5th and March 12th; Song Writing Workshop, Saturdays 1-5 - Feb 27th, March 6th, March 13th

Other Opportunities
Audition Workshops: Short, focused workshops that provide young people the skills, information, and practice needed to prepare for a successful music theatre audition. These workshops are usually held just prior to Berkeley Playhouse Youth Company auditions in order to help students gain confidence in our own process.

Winter break and Spring Break Camps: These special day camps immerse students in the magical world of music theatre, with training in acting, singing and dancing. The theme of these fun, introductory camps changes from season to season – but the camps are always designed to be fun and educational.
