From the award-winning author Roald Dahl (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, James and the Giant Peach) comes the stage adaptation of his gobsmacking and dreamy adventure - the beloved tale of an unlikely friendship between a twelve year old girl and a big friendly giant!

Unable to sleep one night, Sophie catches sight of a Giant outside her dormitory window. Realizing that he has been spotted, the Giant whisks Sophie away to his secret lair, but instead of eating her (as most Giants would), he enchants her with his funny tales, silly whizzpoppers and the lovely golden dreams.

Most giants are not so friendly, in fact, most of these beastly creatures love nothing more than crunching the bones of "human beans." When the children of England become their next target, the young orphan Sophie and the 24-foot Big Friendly Giant team up to save the children of England by embarking on a magical journey that takes them from Giant Country all the way to Buckingham Palace.

The BFG (Big Friendly Giant) features zany, mixed-up words, wonderfully wicked humor and fantastical, dreamsical adventures. Prepare to be revolted by snozzcumbers and frobscottle and to whoop it up with the likes of Fleshlumpeater, Gizzardgulper, Childchewer and Bloodbottler!

Directed by Jon Tracy, the Berkeley Playhouse production promises to turn the ordinary into the extraordinary, from the moment you enter the theatre with pre-engagement features in the lobby and a theatrical stage experience where ordinary props and sets are much more than the eye first sees!

The BFG has been a smash on London's West End and at theatres across the United States. Britain's Guardian declared it "boisterously enjoyable". Around here, we'd  call it "scrumdiddlyumptious".

Director:  Jon Tracy, known as director auteur, also works as a producer, actor, instructor and light/set/sound/combat designer with such companies as ACT, Z Space, Magic Theatre, New Conservatory, Woman's Will, Willows Theatre, Traveling Lantern Theater Company, Solano Repertory Company, Oberlin Dance Collective, Foothill Theatre Company, Harbor Theatre, and the Lake Tahoe, Napa Valley, Stinson Beach and San Francisco Shakespeare Festivals. He is the recipient of the Kennedy Center Meritorious Achievement Award, a Sacramento Elly Award, a Bay Area Critics Circle nomination, and ten North Bay Arty Awards. He is the Artistic Director of Darkroom Productions, the North Bay's lab for new art. Jon is not new to wicked humor and twisted scripts. Most recently he directed Bug currently playing at the SF Playhouse, Evil Dead, the Musical, at the Willows Theatre.
