TheatreReach Program Receives Long Foundation Grant
Julia Morgan Center for the Arts/Berkeley Playhouse has been awarded a $5,500 grant to support its innovative TheatreReach program for Summer and Fall 2010. TheatreReach provides local schools and summer camps with interactive workshops and live theatre experiences. The Long Foundation funds will be used to subsidize professional teaching artist visits to Berkeley and Oakland classrooms, as well as to pay for tickets for local school and summer camp students to visit the Julia Morgan Center, where they will experience fully-staged professional performances of Disney’s Aladdin (Summer) and Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella, Enchanted.
Now in its third year, TheatreReach served nearly 1,000 students – grades pre-K thru 12 – in the 2009-2010 season.
Executive Director Jerry R. Foust said, “We’re proud that this program continues to grow, both in its quality and in the number of students it reaches each season. We’re grateful to the Thomas J. Long Foundation for helping support the expansion the program to even more Berkeley and Oakland schools in the coming year.”
